How the math works
Converting an hourly wage to a salary uses one simple formula:
Annual pay = hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year
The standard full-time assumption is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours a year. So $25 an hour becomes $25 × 2,080 = $52,000 a year. Every other figure is just that annual number divided up: monthly is annual ÷ 12, semimonthly is ÷ 24, biweekly is ÷ 26, and weekly is ÷ 52.
Common hourly rates at 40 hours a week
| Hourly rate | Weekly | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|---|
| $15.00 | $600.00 | $2,600 | $31,200 |
| $20.00 | $800.00 | $3,467 | $41,600 |
| $25.00 | $1,000.00 | $4,333 | $52,000 |
| $30.00 | $1,200.00 | $5,200 | $62,400 |
| $40.00 | $1,600.00 | $6,933 | $83,200 |
| $50.00 | $2,000.00 | $8,667 | $104,000 |
Why gross vs. take-home matters
When you budget from an hourly wage, always budget from take-home pay, not gross. A $52,000 gross salary might mean roughly $40,000–$44,000 actually deposited over a year, depending on your state, filing status, and benefits deductions. Use the gross figures here for comparing job offers and rates; use take-home for rent and spending decisions.
